Blog Log: The week in local blogging

Perhaps to stave off cabin fever now that winter has finally come to the party, some blogs took us to other locales this week.

Ashvegas caught up with Sundance film-festival entry “Anywhere USA” (formerly “Asheville: The Movie”), with this roundup on the state of indie filmmaking.

High Country Conservative (now Appalachian Scribe) took us way out, with photographic evidence of Martian life that will likely find its way across the desk of Joshua P. Warren.

Then The Asheville Music Scene reeled it in a bit with a Boston Globe review of local band The Royal We.

Speaking of music, Mount Dungeon had this to say about last weekend’s POPAsheville Festival.

And while we’re on the topic of dungeons, Sophie Seriously wants to know what your fetishes are.

Which brings us to restraint and naturally leads us to Nightshade’s new Wunderbra over at Phidou.

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

Thanks again for the showcase, Brian.

For a damn near comprehensive roll of local bloggers, visit BlogAsheville:

Also, BlogAsheville’s copious talent is hooking up with the community media mavens of MAIN & WPVM on Saturday, Feb. 2nd at the Rocket Club. It’s going to be an absolute scream.

To be honest, it has been Mx’s interest in blogging and the Forums addition that has gotten me reading MountainX regularly. I used to be a once-in-a-while reader or if i wanted to verify a music group or other event when i would read it.

Thanks for what you folks do.

  3. Brain,

Thought I’d mention that I’ve been added as a “guest” blogger on Around Asheville. My first guest post appeared on the site on 1-25-08. My plan is to find uniquely Asheville ‘experiences’ to cover, such as the Faces of Asheville project.

Meanwhile, I’m more than one-quarter of the way through my “Year in Asheville” blog project, which can be found at http://www.a-year-in-asheville.com

Thanks for covering the local blogging beat.

    Marty
