Many times the best shots are unplanned. Several people who have seen this photo think it was staged … it wasn’t. I was coming around a bend in the trail beside the river out at Warren Wilson College with a friend when I spotted this guy setting about 20 feet above the river on the tree limb. He surprised me. I didn’t expect to see him there. As if he were a deer and I were a hunter about to take a shot, I silently lowered the lens on him and squeezed off a couple of shots. Before leaving, I told him who I was and left my card for him on a tree stump so he could find it when he climbed down.
