Speak out against tar-sands pipeline

I'm planning to hop on the bus along with fellow Ashevilleans to head up to Washington, D.C., on Feb. 16, for the "Forward on Climate" rally. Why?

Because it's been over a year since Obama agreed to postpone (for one year) a decision on building the Keystone XL pipeline, that would conduct tar sands oil from Alberta, Canada to our country. He's under pressure to put the pipeline through, from big oil interests. And noted climate scientist Jim Hansen has said that if that pipeline is built and this oil is burned, "It's game over for the climate."

The project is already devastating the lands of indigenous peoples in Alberta. What is more important, the profit of a few or the future of humanity on an endangered planet? Here in North Carolina, we have enough offshore wind potential to supply all our electricity needs, not even counting energy efficiency, solar energy, small hydro, methane from waste products and more. The Sierra Club, 350.org, WNC Alliance and many others are supporting the Forward on Climate demonstration. To reserve your spot on the bus, please visit http://avl.mx/ps.
