Sidewalks in Haw Creek will lead to good things

I think we need sidewalks in Haw Creek [so] people could walk to the pool. Also there are two different schools in Haw Creek and if there were sidewalks, so many people could walk to school every day. If there were sidewalks and people were walking to school and to the pool it would keep everyone in shape.

I hope when the Asheville City Council comes to east Asheville on [Aug.] 31, they will take these ideas into consideration.

Rebecca, we now have a rigid GREEN agenda in Asheville as mandated by our ruling city council.
Sidewalks are NOT environmentally friendly as they compromise the ecosystem, and do not drain
naturally. Gravel paths are what you want and need more than CONCRETE sidewalks! Think GREEN!
Remember the GREEN Agenda! We MUST SAVE the PLANET!

Good luck with getting Asheville to pay for sidewalks or paths if its not downtown or the wretched River Arts District.

    Blew,
It is yet to be seen whether Asheville truly has a “rigid green agenda.” Perhaps it will lead to less cars and more public transportation in Asheville. I certainly hope so, but I think you missed the point Rebecca was attempting to make.

Residents have a right to expect a safe means of walking to work, school or play. The lack of sidewalks all over Asheville presents a danger to those people who for whatever reason use their feet to get around town. Turn your passion in the right direction. Come join the discussion on sidewalks with the City Council.

You will find allies in those that are pushing for more sidewalks–by educating and encouraging the city to build sidewalks (that are both green and ADA-compliant). The case could be made for packed gravel sidewalks, that are both environmentally responsible and a great deal cheaper to contruct. In so doing, you will help make this city both greener and healthier by providing the means for people to get around without automobiles.

Sidewalks in Haw Creek? This isn’t a large northern city. And this part of Asheville is rural-adjacent. In this pitiful economy the last thing we need to do is spend tax payers’ money on something that may be nice, but is not necessary. In case you all haven’t noticed, we are in a recession hovering over depression. Tax revenues are way down for city and county. people really hung up on sidewalks in rural areas of Asheville? Well, they’ve got plenty of sidewalks in Philly, NYC, and the Jersey shore. :)

    Sidewalks lead to Socialism!

It’s a slippery slope when you begin taxing everyone to pay for the minority who walk!

hey ‘Jack’–why do you use so many different names to repeat the same comments?
