Heroes walk — or bike — among us

There are quiet leaders who walk among us, those who built Asheville to be the town she’s become. Claudia and Mike Nix are two of those leaders.

The couple’s shop, Liberty Bicycles, has been a business leader for 30 years and has grown into an internationally renowned bike store. All along, Claudia, in her quiet yet powerful way, has tirelessly worked for bike acceptance in Western North Carolina and beyond. Now we all see a product of Claudia’s efforts in the vast bike lanes running through town and into the county.

When I am downtown, I think of her and applaud her for this important contribution among many others. Asheville is so lucky to have her and her husband in our midst. They are the quiet yet powerful leaders who get things done. They are my heroes!
