In the presidential zone

Having decided to vote consistently against zoning on every level, I looked up McCain’s and Obama’s residences in Phoenix (C-2 zone) and Chicago (RM-5) respectively and figured out how much could legally be built next door to them.

According to my research, it turns out that Obama’s next-door neighbor can legally build a 45-foot-tall condominium building with 108 housing units per acre, but no stores—and a domestic violence shelter would need a special permit. On the other hand, McCain’s next-door neighbor can only build about 25-feet high and only 43 housing units per acre, but can build stores or other commercial structures.

So unfortunately, it looks like a tossup, and I am still unsure whom I will vote for to be president—though I am offended that Obama would tolerate restrictions on domestic-violence shelters in his neighborhood, [something] I could not find anywhere in Phoenix.
For the record, it looks like Clinton’s neighbors in Chappaqua, N.Y., can only build single-family homes (RSLD) at about two housing units per acre, making her lifestyle by far the most elitist and sprawling of the Democratic finalists.

    Alan, can you provide any factual connection between those height restrictions you describe and the candidates? Also, where is the source of your claim that Obama “would tolerate restrictions…”? I tried to find a source for this, but was unable. I did, however, find this:

    * Obama Passed Law to Help Combat Violence Against Women.

    * Obama Passed A Law To Create The Victims Economic Security And Safety Act

    * Obama Passed Law To Increase Penalties For Repeat Domestic Offenders

    * Obama Passed Law To Increase Penalties For Committing Battery In Or Near A Domestic Violence Shelter.

    * Obama Passed Law Improving “No Contact” Court Procedures in Domestic Abuse Petitions.

    * Obama Passed Law Requiring Clear Language be Included in Emergency Orders of Protection.

    * Obama Passed Law Raising Standards Related to Domestic Violence.
