Recognize your assets

As a frequent visitor (and a hopeful retiree in two years) to your area, I love reading the Mountain Xpress, especially the periodic thoughtful comments of Stewart David.

He encourages us to rethink our food choices, urging us all forward to make this a more humane world. I was appalled beyond words that Nina Smith [“Fries With That?”, Feb. 14] said that she would like to subsidize animal torture (i.e. eat yet another animal) because of this.

I, too, am an advocate for animals and for children, and [I] worry about someone who seems to indicate that she would go and kick a child because she didn’t like my advocating for them.

I do hope that this kind of narrow-minded thinking is not prevalent in the Asheville area. … [Its] reputation for being vegetarian-friendly, environmentally-conscious and a diverse community were the reasons that we chose it.

Stewart David (and wife Terri) are wonderful assets to the community. Wish that there were more people like them.
