Why Cape gets our write-in votes

I have worked with Robin Cape and am excited that she wants to continue as Councilwoman. She has a unique ability to listen well in order to respond creatively and thoughtfully to constituent concerns. With her understanding of the issues, she is working to find common ground for achieving a sustainable future for Asheville.

Write in Robin Cape!

Sorry, but anyone affiliated with Smart Growth is highly suspect.

    Google: “smart growth property theft”

Tim Peck: You’re a known right-leaning libertarian (and more power to you for advocating for liberty). Care to explain why you endorse Cape’s write-in campaign? Some folks around here have seen your plugs for Cape and have questioned your motives, asserting that you just want to see Cape suck votes away from progressive candidates who are on the ballot — thus ensuring that other candidates get elected. You seem like an honest guy who often has some salient insights into many local debates. So how about clarifying your support? Do you back Cape’s politics, or just the fact that she might be a spoiler?

  3. Sockpuppetarino

Why are we talking to them?

Because no one else talks to you?

    Is travelah travelahs ‘real’ name?

    Write in Robin Cape!”

American Politics: Proudly treading water since 1962. Or so.

(The preceding comment is not an endorsement of or condemnation of any particular candidate or platform, especially since no particular platform was actually mentioned. Oh, yea, Shad Marsh for mayor!)

  5. “American Politics: Proudly treading water since 1962 ”

You condemn politics as non-serious and then endorse a joke candidate.

By the way, what is your real name?

  6. Piffy!

You condemn politics as non-serious and then endorse a joke candidate.

“When all politics become a joke, only the jokers will be politicians.”

    -Jefferson Thomas

seriously, tim, don’t take things so seriously.

  7. Ah, Tim. My real name is on my driver’s license. Surely a proud libertarian such as yourself doesn’t want to go around demanding to see ID every time someone decides to have an opinion or crack a joke or whatever, do you?

Or are you one of those Big-L libertarians for whom Liberty is something reserved only for those “in the club,” those who “get it,” those who have read Atlas Shrugged and, more importantly, not giggled at it? Is it really so threatening to you that should want to know my name, street address and phone number? What about privacy? What about anonymity?

Oh, no. That’s right. You are ok with “private” interests who might want to know more about me. Just not the “damn liberal government.”

I might be wrong. You might just be a leftist commissar in disguise.

At any rate, dear Tim, politics itself is a bit of a joke and I think you know that. The actual act of policy making is separate and different from the act of getting elected to public office. I bet Shad knows that, too. I bet most intellectually honest people know that. And it is too bad most of them aren’t running for office, isn’t it?

Speaking of intellectually honest and being serious, you have never actually answered the question posed to you early in this little thread: Why are you waving the Robin Cape flag so hard and so high?

More importantly, what if you foul up and get nothing but progressives on the City Council? Would you want to move somewhere more libertarian and freewheeling? Holiday Inn Saipan, maybe?

It is clear that Mr. Peck has answered my question by NOT answering it. He is actively plugging Robin Cape’s write-in campaign, yet the link he attaches (as he’s done here) is to his blog — a right-wing, Obama bashing, global-warming denying collection of opinions that are antithetical to everything Robin stands for. So why is he touting her campaign? This is way too transparent, Mr. Peck. He’s doing so because he knows that write-in votes for Cape will split progressive votes and allow a conservative candidate to squeak by.

  9. NobodyInParticular

I’d have to agree with TruthNow, that Peck is only supporting the write-in candidate who doesn’t have a chance of winning because it will steal votes from the real, hard-working, campaigning, progressive, play-by-the-rules candidates. She’s like the Ross Perot or Ralph Nader of City Council elections. We don’t need any more Anti-Obama Haters who waste their time at their little Tea Parties.

I like Robin until she starts talking about how much she likes all the various funding methods she discovers.

    Funding = Borrowing

  11. This is all very enlightening, but the real question is:

Why is this in the 2007 subdirectory of the opinion subdirectory of the mountainx site?

  12. travelah

    Is travelah travelahs ‘real’ name?>/i>

.. er yes. travelah has always been known as travelah or trav … but that doesn’t address what a sock puppet is.

  13. Piffy!

but that doesn’t address what a sock puppet is.

perhaps you should start a thread about it at the forums.

  14. JWTJr

“Anti-Obama Haters” NobodyinParticular – you just disqualified yourself and those who agree with you.

  15. piffy

you just disqualified yourself and those who agree with you.

    Why? How? By what standard?

  16. travelah

but that doesn’t address what a sock puppet is.

perhaps you should start a thread about it at the forums.

The forums have failed to be a medium for robust discussion of issues and instead became a pithy gathering place for a liberal version of the local high school jock club. The entertainment value has faded and I suppose the same is true here too. For all the tearing of clothes and kicking dust in the air over A-CT Topix, there really isn’t much difference between here and there (althogh I am not Topix participant).

There is far too much demonization taking place for any serious and edifying discussion in my opinion (and I don’t excuse myself from that either).

  17. JWTJr

Pfff or piffy or sock puppet or whoever – snark is most of your input on this site. You didn’t recognize mine. I find that pretty funny.

  18. Piffy!

I don’t know, trav. There’s this guy named Spanky who I think you would just love.

Who is running the threads these days? It takes forever for mine to show up and pfff/piffy gets double billing?

  21. travelah

I saw your interaction with him when I assessed the tally and that gave cause for my signature. He is just a fellow ‘tard which is why I am surprised you didn’t just give him a big smootch and rub his behind like a good lil jock.

  22. Ken

I’m glad I didn’t vote for Cape now. Apparently she means well, and she might continue to do a good job, but I prefer to give a chance to some of the other candidates. She wasn’t going to run for city council, and now she wants to. I guess she changed her mind. Who knows? She might change her mind again. How about taking a couple of years off, and then running again? Figure out what you really want to do.

Also: these message boards are becoming almost as silly and stupid as the ones over at the Citizen-Times, with all the name-calling etc.
