From the press release:
sheville, NC -- On Saturday night, February 25th, the Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) and Scandals Nightclub will present Stars Shine RED, a showcase of local and guest drag queens and kings in performances throughout the evening.

The party begins at 8pm in Scandals, located at 11 Grove Street in downtown Asheville. Early drag numbers begin at 9pm with raffle prizes throughout the night. In addition to drag queen and king performances and two-floors of dance music provided by DJ Stratus and DJ Zorro, rapid testing for HIV will be provided free of charge from 8pm-10pm and while supplies last.

“Stars Shine RED will be a party promoting the message of HIV awareness and testing among our young LGBTQ community” says Mary McGahren, WNCAP Special Events Coordinator. “North Carolina is one of 10 southern states with rates of new HIV infections and deaths from AIDS higher than all other regions of the US. Many of those new infections are occurring among young, gay African-American men. This is a group that is historically overlooked in Western North Carolina and WNCAP wants to change that, but we want to do it in a fun, accessible way.”

The cost to attend “Stars Shine RED” is $7 for Scandals members and $10 for non-members 18 years and older. Scandals Nightclub opened in 1982 and has consistently been recognized in the Mountain Express for “Asheville’s Best” drag shows. Scandals is also known for its large dance floor and fun atmosphere.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to WNCAP, to help fund supportive services for those living with HIV/AIDS in WNC and prevention education for those who are at risk. WNCAP is a 501c3 not-for profit organization serving the WNC region since 1986.
