Crack the bubbly and lend a hand

Put on your most sparkly attire and pour on the bubbly for a classy evening for a good cause. Sante Wine Bar will open its lounge on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. for a champagne tasting to benefit Little Iron Man.

Who is the little man and why iron? 5-year old Marough Gardner, a student at North Asheville Preschool, was diagnosed with a form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma. He’s survived chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, along with a clinical study at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Marough’s plan is to “knock the cancer on its buttocks,” which is how he describes his fight on the family’s website. Yes, he’s a polite boy with a big challenge and a family that’s in it for the long haul.

Sante Wine Bar is joining the cause with “Bubbles and Bling and Bee-u-tay!” an evening of glamor and champagne. Anyone who donates $10 or more to the Little Iron Man foundation will be treated to a glass of sparkling wine.

Thursday, Dec. 15, 8 p.m. at Sante Wine Bar, 1 Page Ave #146 in downtown Asheville. $10 donation. Info: www.santewinebar.com or 254-8188
