From a press release:

ACT’s Youth Production Class presents “The Wizard of OZ,” Nov. 14-16

We’re off to see the wizard! The Youth Production Class at Asheville Community Theatre will perform The Wizard of OZ, Nov. 14-16. The Wizard of OZ is directed by Lori Hilliard with musical direction by Ryan Dixon and features a cast of 48 students from across Buncombe County between the ages of 5 and 13. Performances are Friday, November 14 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16 at 2:30 pm. All tickets are $5.00 and are available online, by phone at 828-254-1320 or at the door.

The Wizard of OZ introduces Dorothy Gale, a young girl who lives on a farm in Kansas. When a twister carries her away to the wonderful land of OZ, she and her little dog Toto meet new friends, encounter a very wicked witch, and learn that “there’s no place like home.” This musical features the songs from the classic movie.

“The characters in The Wizard of OZ are iconic,” said Chanda Calentine, Education Director at ACT. “It’s a lot of fun to see middle school students tackle – and very successfully, I might add – the roles of Dorothy, the Wicked Witch, the Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow. This entire cast is just amazing!”

The Asheville Community Theatre production stars a cast of 48 students, including 15 Munchkins between the ages of 5 and 7. From auditions to the final curtain call, the Youth Production Classes at ACT provide students the opportunity to participate in a play from beginning to end.
