Author Lavinia Plonka releases “Meditating With My Hair On Fire,” Dec. 5

Lavinia Plonka likes that say that her life may not have been illustrious, but it has been colorful. She has been an accordion prodigy, advertising executive, street mime, fortune teller, and currently, a Feldenkrais® teacher. Lavinia has also written for Western North Carolina Woman for over twelve years. Her column, “CosmiComedy,” celebrates the tiny foolish humans that live in this corner of the universe.

Plonka’s new book, Meditating With My Hair On Fire is a compilation of 33 of the 150 essays WNC Woman has published through the years. Her autobiographical stories ask weighty questions like: Are aliens stealing our time? Can one find enlightenment at Sam’s Club? Are nail salons a galactic conspiracy? She falls off logs, loses her purse all over the country, and dreams of toilets in the living room. Lavinia’s follies include her fear of an empty refrigerator, a husband who can never find the glasses on his head and a battle with a zombie cardinal. Anyone who has been encouraged to get a makeover, been stranded in an airport, or has descended from the Pleaides will resonate with Plonka’s unique view of our very Comic Cosmos.

Join Lavinia for a celebration and book signing on Friday, December 5, 5:30 PM at Asheville Movement Center, 4 Richmond Ave in W. Asheville. She guarantees mayhem and light refreshments. For more information about Lavinia and the book, visit www.laviniaplonka.com.
