Press release:

Smoky Mountain LME/MCO has announced it is sponsoring this year’s Carolina HealthTEC Live, the Southeast’s premier behavioral health and long-term support services technology conference and expo Friday, May 27 at the Crowne Plaza Resort near downtown Asheville. This event brings together industry experts and policy makers for interactive discussions and experiences about how to use technology in the behavioral health and long-term support services continuum.

Scheduled speakers include Dr. Gabor Maté, bestselling author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts and a renowned speaker in addiction, stress and childhood development; Dr. Luis Pérez, Professional Learning Chair of the Inclusive Learning Network of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE); and Lynne Seagle, Executive Director of Norfolk’s Hope House Foundation, which provides individualized, supported living and in-home services.

Carolina HealthTEC Live is open to health service providers and policy makers for mental health, developmental disability and substance use issues, as well as individuals and families who use these services. The event features cutting-edge, useful technology such as:

  • Inclusive TLC’s “Eyegaze” technology, which helps people with limited typing ability by using eye movement scans to connect to a computer and perform tasks.
  • A Simply Home apartment that showcases how technology helps people live independently.
  • A Screening for Mental Health “MindKare Kiosk” – a freestanding, anonymous behavioral health screening tool similar to blood pressure machines. The kiosks also offer information on resources and a phone connection to call for a referral.
