Charlotte’s Web at Asheville Community Theatre, Oct. 30-Nov. 2

The beloved children’s story comes to life on stage! The Youth Production Class at Asheville Community Theatre will perform Charlotte’s Web October 30 – November 2, 2014. Charlotte’s Web is directed by Jeff Catanese with and features a cast of 17 students from across Buncombe County between the ages of 7 and 12. Performances are Thursday, October 30 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 at 2:30 pm. There is no performance on Friday, October 31. All tickets are $5.00 and are available online, by phone at 828-254-1320 or at the door.

The Children’s Literature Association named Charlotte’s Web “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” and Joseph Robinette, working with the advice of E.B. White, has created a play that captures this work in a thrilling and utterly practical theatrical presentation. All the enchanting characters are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat; the Zuckerman family; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.”

“Charlotte’s Web is a beautiful play about friendship,” said Chanda Calentine, Education Director at ACT. “Our production is a great way to introduce the youngest audience members to the magic of live theatre!”

The Asheville Community Theatre production stars a cast of 17 students who have been rehearsing after school since August. From auditions to the final curtain call, the Youth Production Classes at ACT provide students the opportunity to participate in a play from beginning to end.
