LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. – Adults in the second half of life are invited to attend the Festival of Wisdom and Grace at Lake Junaluska, Aug. 1-4, 2016. The conference will provide renewal and inspiration through worship, Bible studies, workshops, professional training and fellowship. Dr. Tony Campolo, Dr. Mickey Efird and Dr. James H. Pace will lead the conference.
This year’s theme is “come to the water,” in reference to a Bible verse from the book of Isaiah:
“Come, you who are thirsty, come to the waters…you will go out in joy and be led forth in peace.” Isaiah 55: 1,12
Workshop topics include Laughter Yoga, Reminiscence & Resiliency and Retirement as Re-invention. A professional track for those working in ministry full-time, part-time, or exploring older adult ministry as a vocation will focus on wisdom, grace and aging. Continuing education credit is available for the professional track.
The beautiful grounds of Lake Junaluska enhance the theme. Attendees may spend Sabbath time swimming at the pool, strolling four miles of walking trails or visiting one of many waterfalls nearby. Attendees can play an optional round of golf at the Lake Junaluska Golf Course. The Lake Junaluska Singers will perform.
Three respected speakers will lead the conference. Dr. Tony Campolo, internationally recognized preacher, activist and author of more than 35 books, joins the festival as conference preacher. Dr. Mickey Efird, who has taught at Duke Divinity School for decades and thrives on making the Bible understandable for all, is the Bible study leader. Dr. James H. Pace, a recently retired professor of Hebrew history and the Old Testament at Elon University will lead the professional track workshop on wisdom, grace and aging.
The event is sponsored by the Southeastern Jurisdictional Association of Older Adults, a group that creates and strengthens intergenerational ministries in the Southeast.
Packages include the program fee, lodging and meals. Attendees will stay in one of two hotels located at Lake Junaluska – The Terrace or the Lambuth Inn.
