Laura Winner to present “The Art of the Spiritual Memoir”

Lauren Winner, a writer, historian and theologian known for chronicling her own spiritual journeys, will present “The Art of Spiritual Memoir” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 in UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, Laurel Forum.

Winner, whose commentaries have appeared on PBS, in the Washington Post and the New York Times Book Review, is the author of many books, including “Girl Meets God” (Random House, 2003), “Real Sex: The Naked Truth about Chastity” (Brazos Press, 2006), and her most recent, “Still: Notes on a Mid-Faith Crisis” (HarperOne, 2012). She was also senior editor for Christianity Today.

The daughter of a mixed-faith marriage, Winner was raised Jewish, became an Orthodox Jew in college, but later converted to Christianity and became an ordained Episcopal priest. With degrees from Duke, Columbia and Cambridge universities, Winner is assistant professor of Christian spirituality at Duke Divinity School.
