What’s a hog riding a motorcycle got to do with the Mountain State Fair?

I have attended state fairs all my life and can't seem to understand why, here in the mountains in the last few years, we have had goofy mascots for publicity. I am talking about the hog riding a motorcycle and the duck this year. We might attract more people without getting so corny and even sell more merchandise if [the approach] wasn't weird. Like I said, I have attended many a state fair in many states in my 50 years, and they didn't seem to need to come up with this type of stuff to attract people.

I didn't go to the fair this year mainly because of the theme. The theme was great if you are 2 or 3 years old. Some adults might like a nicer shirt or hat to wear (besides the golf-shirt style). I was made fun of when I wore my hog-on-motorcycle shirt in Florida after I got it at the fair here.

Please, fair organizers, in the future, let the Mountain State Fair be a fair and not the vehicle for humor you have made it.
