Restaurants, salons set to open May 22 as NC begins Phase 2 reopening
Restaurants, pools and personal care services — including salons and barber shops — will be allowed to open at 50% capacity, while child care facilities, day camps and overnight camps can open with “enhanced cleaning and screening requirements.”

Asheville and Buncombe County pay tribute to fallen veterans and emergency responders
Despite gray skies and sporadic rain showers, a crowd of more than 200 gathered in Pack Square Park on May 29 to pay tribute to fallen veterans and local emergency responders. Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer, Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Chair Brownie Newman and representatives from different branches of the military, as well as local police and fire departments, presented a wreath to honor the fallen.

Elected officials, military veterans, active duty service members, first responders and members of the community gathered at Pack Square Park on Memorial Day to honor and commemorate the sacrifices of the men and women who serve and have served the United States.

About 200 people, among them uniformed soldiers, patch wearing vets, boy and girl scouts and civilians, gathered at Memorial Stadium above McCormick Field for the Asheville/Buncombe Memorial Day ceremony on Monday.
