From the First Presbyterian Church of Asheville:
Now is a time for prayer and action. The streets of downtown Asheville have seen days of protest and nights of violence. There is no excuse for violence, but we must not let that distract us from what is really at stake.
Those who are protesting are calling for greater justice and equity. They are voicing generations of pain and calling for all people to be able to live without fear and be treated with dignity. In sacred language, they are asking for a fuller measure of “thy kingdom come” in the neighborhoods of our city. As a downtown congregation, this is our neighborhood. We need to listen closely and stand with them. Peacefully, prayerfully, and humbly.
Your session has voted unanimously to support and participate in this gathering. I hope you’ll join me and other faith communities and clergy on Church Street tomorrow if you are able, and if not, please join us in spirit.
In Christ,
PatrickPrayer in Action: A Gathering of Solidarity for Peace and Justice

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate.
