AC-T: ‘Idol’ finalist Caleb Johnson honored by hometown

Visiting Asheville Saturday for the first time since reaching the “American Idol” top 13 more than two months ago, Caleb Johnson had lunch with his family at 12 Bones, enjoyed a downtown parade in his honor and sang a few songs for a packed house at The Orange Peel, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported.

Johnson, an Asheville native and Erwin High graduate, is now in the “Idol” top three, needing to win just two more votes to be named the 13th winner of the Fox singing competition.

The Orange Peel event included honors bestowed by mayor Esther Manheimer and county commission chair David Gantt, as well as the announcement of one of three songs Johnson will sing Wednesday on the next live “Idol” performance show. According to Manheimer, Asheville voted for Johnson to sing Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused” for a second time.

Johnson’s final public event for his hometown visit: a concert at the Emerald Lounge Saturday night.
