During their first debate Thursday, Republican Congressman Mark Meadows and his 11th District Democratic opponent, Tom Hill, found little to agree on.
They disagreed about raising the minimum wage and the nation’s debt ceiling, the government’s role in creating jobs, how to deal with turmoil in Ukraine and federal scrutiny of police in Ferguson, Mo.
The only thing the two did agree on was that Hill, a 76-year-old retired physicist from Zirconia, wasn’t too old to seek office.
During the hour-long debate at Western Carolina University, Meadows stressed the importance of bipartisanship, while Hill repeatedly chastised “right-wingers” for ignoring working class people while favoring the richest U.S. corporations with tax loopholes.
