The Asheville Beat Tape Collective announces a two-night show at One Stop and Asheville Music Hall, Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11. Featured performers include The Difference Machine from Atlanta on Friday and Blockhead from New York City on Saturday.

10pm-2amJoin us for a 2 night BEAT LIFE takeover starting Friday April 10th at The One Stop with a special performance from the Atlanta based Hip Hop supergroup, The Difference Machine. Opening will be red hot local MC Musashi Xero as well as Raleigh based Slums, and long time ABTC resident EmE. DJ Kutzu will be holding down the wheels of steel all night so that the music, and party doesn’t stop. Saturday night’s installment will feature Blockhead, all the way from NYC, alongside MONO/POLY (Brainfeeder), and Ellie Herring. Blockhead has been a long time inspiration for the collective, having released a handful of solo albums on Ninja Tune, such as the classic Music by Cavelight. He also produced most of the noteworthy tracks for the legendary rapper Aesop Rock. His self released new album Bells and Whistles is out now. Tour support includes MONO/POLY (who recently headlined last November’s BEATLIFE) as well as Ellie Herring from Lexington, KY.

Dr. Conspiracy makes the beats, Obeah does the scratches, and Radley plays the drums. Making waves in Atlanta at showcases such as the Left Field Experiment, and earning top honors in local press, TDM are ready to take the world by storm with their blend of golden era rhymes, break heavy beats and psychedelia.

– Ali McGhee, Sensible ReasonSlums: Hailing from Raliegh NC, Slums is a beatmaker and producer on the up. We recently saw him perform at the Telepathy showcase and had to bring him to Asheville to showcase his talents. Expect some soulful Dilla inspired grooves coming out of his SP-404.
EmE: Long time ABTC resident and veteran producer. He’s the most underrated producer in the region according to Panther God. His golden ear transforms the most mundane loops and samples into a synergistic whirlpool of delectable beat music which is suffused with humility and beauty.
DJ Kutzu: Beat Life resident DJ Kutzu has been holding down the wheels of steel for many years, but it’s as if he’s just now getting his footing, with new weekly showcases such as Turntablism Tuesdays at The One Stop and a recent collaborations with Panther God and Musashi Xero.

MONO/POLY: In defying the laws of tradition, Los Angeles based music producer Mono/Poly (born Charles Dickerson) has managed to outstrip the logics of multi-genre producing. Known for his distinct madness of face melting bass, paired with his dreamy astral soundscapes of glitch-based hip-hop, Mono/Poly has proved himself to be a natural phenomenon.
Ellie Herring: Female beatmaker. Hails from Kentucky. Touring with Blockhead, and recently signed to Autonomous Music for bookings.
