Press release:
YMCA of Western North Carolina Chosen as a Resolution Run Charity Partner
New Year’s Day 5k in downtown Asheville to benefit YMCA Annual Campaign
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 14, 2015) – The YMCA of Western North Carolina has been chosen by iDaph Events to be a charity partner for the 2016 Resolution Run being held Friday, January 1, 2016, 10am, in downtown Asheville. A portion of the proceeds from the Resolution Run will go to the YMCA to help ensure that no one is turned away from the Y due to an inability to pay.
The YMCA of Western North Carolina will host the packet pick-up and awards ceremonies at the Asheville YMCA, and will keep runners, walkers — and even crawlers — hydrated and energized throughout the course. The 2015 Resolution Run hosted 600 runners, and this year’s run promises to be another great event.
Packet pick-up and on-site registration will be available from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on race day at the Asheville YMCA, located at 30 Woodfin Street in downtown Asheville. The race will start and finish at Pack Square along Spruce Street.
“We’re honored that iDaph chose the YMCA of Western North Carolina as a charity partner for the Resolution Run. A New Year’s Day run—supported by volunteers—embodies the Y’s commitment to healthy living, fun family time, and helping our neighbors cross their finish lines, whatever they may be,” says Paul Vest, president and CEO of the YMCA of Western North Carolina.
“I chose the YMCA of Western North Carolina as a charity partner because I love the Y,” says Daphne Kirkwood, owner of iDaph events. “The Y has meant so much to me over the years. I used the pool when I was pregnant and wanted to stay active, and once my children were born, the Y was a place where I could exercise and connect with other moms while my children were in the Youth Development Center.
“Now that my kids are older, I continue to use the Y as my place to swim. The Y has had a huge impact on my life, and I see the positive affect it has on so many in the community,” she adds.
Online registration for the Resolution Run is open until Tues., Dec. 22 at bit.ly/1RIv4zN. For more information or to volunteer to help with the event, contact events@idaph.net or visit the race website. Volunteers who want to help with the run can register online at bit.ly/1Z3ffpB and mention the YMCA—iDaph will generously make an additional donation for each YMCA-affiliated volunteer. Runners wishing to raise funds for the Y can go to http://bit.ly/1jT42rx to set up a fundraising page to accept donations from friends and family.
