Aloft Asheville Downtown will collaborate with Hi-Wire Brewing Co. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, to present an evening of food and beer pairings in Aloft’s WXYZ bar. Dubbed Taste of the South Slope, the event, which benefits MANNA FoodBank, will feature four small-plate offerings from the WXYZ menu, each paired with a Hi-Wire brew.
The following pairings will be served:
· Death Defying Spring Ale paired with a winter festive salad.
· Bohemian Dark Lager paired with a bite-sized portion of Aloft’s four-cheese grilled cheese and a soup shooter.
· Firewalker Porter paired with Aloft’s pork sliders, which feature a Brussels sprout habanero vinegar slaw.
· Passion Fruit White IPA paired with a passion fruit gelato.
Chris McLain of Hi-Wire Brewing will be on hand to discuss the featured beers and how each pairs with its accompanying small-plate dish.
“It was really fun putting together a menu that combines our culinary team’s creations with the unique flavors of Hi-Wire’s beers,” says Emma Ledbetter, director of food and beverage for Aloft Asheville Downtown. “We are excited to be working with Hi-Wire and look forward to serving up our delicious food and beer pairings at the South Slope tasting event.”
Each pairing will cost $12. Guests may also try just the beer or the food for $6 per course. Guests who bring a nonperishable or canned food item will receive a $2 discount on each flight they purchase.
All donated food will go to MANNA FoodBank, a nonprofit organization that links the food industry with 248 partner agencies in 16 counties across Western North Carolina to help solve hunger.
“Our ‘Taste of the South Slope’ event will be a fun opportunity for hotel guests and locals to try some favorite Asheville brews paired with our delicious small plate offerings,” Aloft Asheville Downtown General Manager David McCartney said in a press release.
“More importantly, this event allows us to collaborate with one of our South Slope neighbors to give back to a very important cause,” he continued. “As so many people in our community continue to struggle with hunger, every little bit counts in helping them put food on the table. January and February are important need times for MANNA Foodbank, as they typically face lower levels of donations following the holiday season.”
The event is open to the public and will be held 5:30-7:00 Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the WXYZ lounge at Aloft Asheville Downtown, 51 Biltmore Ave.
