PRESS RELEASE FROM EVENT ORGANIZERS:
Presenting world class musicians offering inspiring performances in one of the best music venues in the southeast… that is the Brevard Philharmonic formula. Opening with a bang, the 40th season of our county’s own professional orchestra kicks off on Sunday, September 11th at 3pm in the Porter Center at Brevard College with one of the most passionate and charismatic performers on the concert scene today, pianist Marina Lomazov. The orchestra will present a concert celebrating the Russian Masters with Lomazov playing the moving Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2.
Rounding out the new 2016/2017 season, the Brevard Philharmonic will present four more Sunday afternoon concerts and one evening concert throughout the year, all filled with high quality music, gifted soloists and one very famous cello.
The famous cello once belonged to the legendary Pablo Casals and is permanently on loan to Amit Peled, the next soloist in the series. Musical America called Peled “One of the most influential music professionals of 2015.” Amit Peled and Pablo Casal’s 1733 Goffriller cello will join the Philharmonic to play Dvorak’s cello concerto in B minor on Sunday, November 13th.
December 15th rings in an orchestral holiday celebration with the always anticipated, Christmas Splendor concert. Joyce Yang, Van Cliburn Competition winner and the pianist who electrified the stage of the Music Center in July, will play Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini with the orchestra on February 26th, followed in March by the pure family fun of the Pops Blockbuster concert on the 12th. For the April 30th grand finale of this remarkable season, a young violinist who has walked away with the top prizes at countless international competitions, Stephen Waarts will take the stage. It will be an afternoon of Mendelssohn and Dvorak, with Waarts’ spellbinding interpretation of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor.
The Brevard Philharmonic is a non profit organization comprised of local and regional musicians, presenting six concerts annually at Brevard College’s Porter Center for the Performing Arts under the baton of Donald Portnoy, its artistic director and conductor. Its mission is to foster in the community and in our schools an appreciation for classical music and the performing arts.
Individual tickets are $25 to $35 per concert. Season concert packages are als available. Call 828-884-4221 for details. Or order with our “pick your seat” option at brevardphilharmonic.org.
