On Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 5:30-8:30 p.m., join us for a fun-filled evening of acrobats, aerialists, juggling, a silent auction and more! Asheville Aerial Arts invites you for an evening of spooky fun at the Hi-Wire Brewing Big Top. All proceeds will benefit our founder, Christine Aiken, who has been struggling with breast cancer for the past year.
“Christine brought aerial arts into the public eye with the opening of Asheville Aerial Arts. Prior to that, Asheville did not have an aerial entertainment company, nor any schools. Christine kicked that off and now there are several studios run by Asheville Aerial Arts instructors where the public can come and take classes. Christine’s contributions to our community really did enrich the community with circus arts, unique entertainment and aerial fitness.” says Meghan Bourke, the company’s Director.
Asheville Aerial Arts was founded in 2007 by Christine Aiken, and debuted at the Asheville Area Arts Council’s Big White Ball. Her artists have gone on to perform for circuses around the world. Today, artists from around the world make Asheville a stop on their workshop tours largely because of how the circus community has been embraced in this unique mountain oasis.
Christine was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2018. As a single mother who works full-time and runs a company, Christine was challenged with the tough treatment protocols and the difficulty managing side effects. Through it all, Christine maintained her work leading a team of lenders as Vice President of Mortgage Lending and Renovation Specialist for Guaranteed Rate. “I could not have survived my treatment without the support of my friends, family and co-workers. Everyone pulled together to help with my work load, my son’s care, and all the other things that I struggled with during such a rigorous treatment protocol. I am forever grateful to them. Meghan Bourke stepping in to take over the day-to-day operations. I am forever grateful!” says Christine.This benefit is being held for the soul purpose of helping Christine support her family after expensive medical treatments and reduced work hours resulted in financial difficulties. Her friends and company hope folks will come out for a good cause and a great show. The benefit will have a silent auction, DJ, aerial artists, stilt walkers, caricature and face painting artists, body balancers and much more. “It really is going to be a heck of a night in the entertainment community here in Asheville, and all to benefit a single mom that deserves a helping hand in her time of need” states Meghan.
