Catawba Brewing Co. will welcome the newest addition to its Biltmore Village tasting room – permanent in-house axe-throwing lanes – in a grand opening celebration on Jan. 8 from 5-9 p.m. Axeville at Catawba Biltmore is a partnership with Axeville Events Asheville.
“Visitors at our Catawba Charlotte tasting room and sister brewery in Charleston (Palmetto) have become big fans of this sport, described as darts but extreme, with axe-throwing companies as neighbors and regular pop-up guests. So, it was a natural fit to bring the same action-packed axe-throwing experience to Catawba Asheville,” states Billy Pyatt, co-owner of Catawba Brewing Co. “Biltmore Village will offer the company’s first permanent in-house axe-throwing lanes in a tasting room. Axeville has outdone themselves with the transformation of their new space within the Biltmore location; patrons can expect a cozy hunting-lodge vibe with four throwing lanes in a carpeted area, replete with comfortable chairs and couches.”
During the grand opening, Axeville will offer sessions from 5-9 p.m.; there will be throwing coaches or “Axperts” on hand to teach newcomers how to throw and ensure the safety of participants and guests.
Catawba Brewing is marking the occasion with an axe-throwing-inspired Small Batch beer release: Flying Blades Schwarzbier (ABV 4.7%). A German-style black lager, Flying Blades Schwarzbier is brewed with five specialty grains, lending notes of coffee and dark chocolate — with a smooth, clean finish. Schwarzbier is one of the oldest known European beer styles, with origins in Kulmbach, Germany, circa 800 BC.
Plus, Sweet Cheesus and Daily Dough will pop up with macaroni & cheese, wings and pretzel stations for the celebration.
After the grand opening, Axeville will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5-9 p.m., offering 30-min. sessions (walk-in only) as well as one- and two-hour options (walk-in or online booking).
