Press release from the YMCA of WNC:
More local children will be able to go to camp this summer thanks to the Omni Grove Park Inn.
The YMCA of Western North Carolina is one of eight local community organizations benefiting from the 27th National Gingerbread House Competition and Holiday Parking Program. The $13,000 donation will fund scholarships for young people to attend YMCA Camp Watia in Bryson City.
“We are extremely honored to be one of the Omni Grove Park Inn’s parking partners for the National Gingerbread Competition,” said Ryan Hove, executive director of YMCA Camp Watia. “The YMCA of Western North Carolina built Camp Watia to make overnight summer camp accessible to all local families. This generous donation will help children who might not otherwise be able to benefit from the life-changing experience of overnight camp.”
Thanks to generous community support, 25 percent of Watia campers receive scholarships to attend camp. For more information on YMCA Camp Watia, please visit ymcacampwatia.org.
