Press release from Henderson County Public Schools:
On the afternoon and evening of Friday, June 5, Henderson County Public Schools’ four traditional high schools and the Henderson County Career Academy will host “Drive Thru” Diploma processions for graduating seniors and their families.
Graduating seniors and their families will drive a predetermined route to their school campuses, directed by partners in law enforcement. Families will remain in their vehicles while students will be individually invited to walk to a designated location to receive their diplomas, graduation programs, and honor medallions, and officially “graduated” by school administrators.
Thanks to the organized efforts of independent Hendersonville photographers, each graduate will be photographed with their diploma, and HCPS will be providing each with a commemorative print. Additional prints will be available for families to order from our photography partners, at a link on our “Class of 2020” website.
West Henderson High’s procession is scheduled from 1-7 p.m. and Rugby Middle faculty plan to line the route from the middle to the high school (along Haywood Road) to wave to their former students, and West faculty will do the same on the high school campus, along with the Falcon mascot.
East Henderson High’s procession is scheduled from 3-7 p.m., faculty will line the procession route throughout campus in their traditional graduation regalia to cheer on graduates. Brand new “Go Eagles” banners hung on campus light poles and balloons will decorate the graduates’ path to a stage set in front of the picturesque tree-lined entrance.
North Henderson High’s procession is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. and will feature 10 “cheer stations” along its route, where teachers will be celebrating students’ specific accomplishments such as AP Scholars, Arts Scholars, etc. Tim Lolley, The Voice of the Knights (and of the Asheville Tourists), will be reading all names for the ceremony, and Mountain Home Fire & Rescue’s ladder will extend the American flag over the procession.
Hendersonville High’s procession is scheduled from 3:45-6 p.m. and the entire HHS staff will be lining Church St., Bearcat Blvd. and the track around the football field, saluting seniors as they drive the predetermined route. As they drive past the concession stand, each senior will receive a gift before proceeding on to the diploma station. The school will also be lining the “senior side” of the building with every graduate’s portrait.
Henderson County Career Academy’s procession is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. and the route will be lined with placards, burgundy and silver balloons, and cardboard caps with each student’s name. Henderson County Early College hosted its ceremony on May 22, the school’s originally planned graduation date, which is annually earlier than the other five high schools to align with the Blue Ridge Community College calendar.
Administrators at each school have already communicated to graduate families the specific traffic patterns and directions that should be followed on their school campuses. Any road closure information will be shared by local law enforcement agencies.
