Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy proudly announces it has received a $150,000 grant from the Asheville-based Glass Foundation to support the purchase of new classroom furniture and interactive classroom technology. Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy, a new public charter school, will open this August serving students in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade, and will add a grade level each year until serving K-8th.
One of the Glass Foundation’s primary pillars, to support “high quality educational opportunities” in Western North Carolina, perfectly intersects with Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy’s mission to provide an equitable, academically rigorous educational option in effort to close the area’s pervasive opportunity gap for children of color.
Asheville P.E.A.K. Academy will be moving their new furniture and technology into their new home at 27 Balm Grove Avenue, behind Trinity United Methodist Church in West Asheville. The grant from the Glass Foundation is a great boost, as charter schools do not get any public funding until after they have students in the building. Founding Board Chair, Tiffany Iheanacho, states, “The Glass Foundation’s generous support will go a long way in ensuring we are creating a dynamic learning environment that is deserving of our children. Our classrooms are going to be vibrant, collaborative, and student-centered, so getting to select furniture that encourages this type of environment is exciting for us.” Asheville P.E.A.K.
