Local acoustic trio Red June (Will Straughan on resonator guitar, guitar, mandolin and vocals; Natalya Weinstein on fiddle and vocals; and John Cloyd Miller on mandolin, guitar and vocals) recently released a new album. Ancient Dreams, out on Organic Records, was produced by Tim Surrett of Balsam Range. “Like your best dreams, nocturnal or daytime visions, Red June’s music has a transformative power that is the result of the pastoral story-songs which hold an underlying familiarity,” says a press release for the album. “It is music and songwriting that is instantly comforting, thought-evoking with relatable themes, even if they are not always obvious on the surface.” The band holds an album release party at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall on Friday, May 16, at 8:30 p.m. $12 advance/$15 at the door. isisasheville.com.
