Brian Freeman’s readers first met detective Jonathan Stride in 2005, when the character appeared in Immoral. Since then, Stride has unraveled gruesome crimes in eight more books, including new release Goodbye to the the Dead. In this high-intensity plot, Stride and current lover and colleague Serena Dial investigate a human trafficking case in Duluth, Minn. But a discovery by Dial links the current case to a trial that unfolded eight years ago — one in which Stride and his first wife disagreed about the guilty party. The new developments undermine Stride’s certainty, leading the widower to question his earlier conclusions. An international best-selling author, Freeman pays his first visit to Malaprop’s Bookstore/Café to celebrate the new release on Saturday, March 19, at 7 p.m. Free. malaprops.com.
