“The world needs more funk, and these guys are leading the revival,” says a press release for Colorado-based prog collective The Motet. While that statement may be up for debate, for those hoping to up their funk intake, this seven-piece outfit offers a well-honed blend of Afrobeat, disco, electronic and soul, all based in the roots of funk. In fact, so confident is the band in its sound that, according to its bio, the decision to call its recently released seventh album simply The Motet “is a reflection that the group has finally become what it has striven to be throughout its existence.” The Motet takes the stage at Asheville Music Hall on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10 p.m. Jahman Braman also performs. $15 advance/$18 day of show. ashevillemusichall.com.
