A-B Tech to offer mental health first aid training

Press release from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College:

A-B Tech Community College’s Continuing Education Department has partnered with a local, licensed mental health professional to provide Mental Health First Aid training, through a program coordinated by the National Council of Behavioral Health.

“In the current climate, we see mental health becoming a very prominent issue,” said Caroline Brigmon, Workforce Programs Director at A-B Tech. “We want to respond to this need by providing the training so employers and employees can learn to recognize the signs of addictions and mental illness, as well as the impact of mental illness and substance abuse disorders.”

The one-day intense training will result in national certification from the National Council of Behavioral Health upon successful completion. The course will also cover a five-step action plan to assess a situation, local resources available and where to turn for help.

“This is the perfect training for first responders, corrections professionals, front desk staff, hospital staff, colleges, universities, public schools and any job that involves the public,” Brigmon said. “We can train your staff on location or at our campus.”
