AC-T: In many ways, Caleb Johnson has already won

While a second-place finish Wednesday on “American Idol” might be a crushing defeat in the short term, Asheville’s Caleb Johnson may have already won for the long haul, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports. Whether he fulfills his dream of becoming a stadium-straddling rock star or not, his “American Idol” stint has been an impressive worldwide audition for whatever he wants to accomplish.

The signs on diners and pawn shops and classroom walls in express a unified desire: Asheville wants Caleb Johnson, its rock ‘n’ roll child, to be America’s No. 1 son and — the next “American Idol.”

“He has that total showmanship, the whole package,” said Davey Mills, the Erwin High School English teacher who taught drama to Johnson for three years. “He’s just so smart, his mind is continuously just creating and coming up with ideas.”
