AMOS hosts author Stephen Sandford, Aug. 14

Press release:

Destination Space Camp, Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS), and Malaprop’s Bookstore are pleased to host The Gravity Well: A Night at AMOS with Author Stephen Sandford. Sandford will present on the importance of our Nation’s early space race, the opportunity to tackle the current challenge of space, and the role our youth and STEM education can play in rising to the challenge. This event will be held in the museum’s STEM lab on August 14th from 6pm-8pm, with access to the museum before and after the talk. This event will be free with a suggested $10 donation.

After his presentation, Stephen Sandford will be signing copies of his book, The Gravity Well, which will be available for purchase at AMOS and Malaprop’s Bookstore while supplies last. Sandford spent 28 years as a researcher and engineer at NASA. As former Director for Space Technology and Exploration at NASA’s Langley Research Center, Sandford has led teams of engineers, researchers, and mission architects to enable human space exploration.

AMOS is excited to host Sandford at the museum during Satellite Week, a one week camp hosted by Destination Space and the museum. Destination Space camp provides high school students an educational opportunity to explore remote sensing and its important applications mitigating local and global environmental issues. “It is important to connect our youth, community, and future work force with individuals like Sandford to inspire exploration and foster lifelong curiosity,” says Anna Priest, Executive Director of AMOS.

Asheville Museum of Science will open its doors at 5:30pm, giving exclusive access to the museum for 30 minutes before the presentation begins at 6pm, and concluding at 8pm.
