Andy Buckner and Levi Lowrey perform at White Horse Black Mountain, July 30

PRESS RELEASE FROM WHITE HORSE BLACK MOUNTAIN:

The South gave birth to the bedrock sounds of virtually all of today’s popular music. Field hollers, blues and spirituals still echo in R&B and its descendants, while the storytelling tradition of mountain ballads, old-time fiddle tunes and church harmonies underpin bluegrass and country. African-American traditions have intertwined with European ones to create uniquely American forms of expression, brimming with hybrid vigor. His roots planted deep in Appalachian soil, rocker Andy Buckner has rolled just about all of them all into what he calls “just good Southern music”. He regularly packs in large and enthusiastic crowds at the White Horse Black Mountain with his potent mix of Southern rock, outlaw country, blues and bluegrass, where he’ll play on Saturday, July 20 at 8 p.m. Buckner has a history of supporting other talented artists, so the show will also feature Dacula, Georgia singer-songwriter Levi Lowrey, who has performed as a soloist and headliner in his own right, as well as opening for big names like Clay Cook and the Zac Brown Band.

Buckner’s North Carolina mountain childhood was filled with music, and he became obsessed at an early age with learning every instrument he could get his hands on. By age of 16 he had mastered bass, banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro and more. He also discovered a knack for writing songs, all the while maintaining a busy schedule competing at festivals, touring, and performing with many established artists and bands. He attended East Tennessee State University, becoming the first freshman since Kenny Chesney to earn a spot in the prestigious ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band and has since established himself as a dynamic solo artist with an authentic Southern country boy perspective.

Show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 advance/$15 door
