Ann B. Ross releases her latest Miss Julia book

Hendersonville-based author Ann B. Ross recently published Miss Julia Lays Down the Law, the latest in her Miss Julia series, and will appear at two local author events. She’ll be at The Fountainhead Bookstore on Tuesday, April 7, and at Malaprop’s on Saturday, April 18.

Press release from Penguin Random House:

2014 was a milestone year for Ann B. Ross and her beloved Miss Julia series: the fourteenth installment, Miss Julia’s Marvelous Makeover, debuted at #10 on the New York Times bestseller list, making it the first in the series to hit the printed list. In April, Ross returns with the newest addition, MISS JULIA LAYS DOWN THE LAW (Viking/Strict On-Sale Date: April 7, 2015/ ISBN: 978-0-525-42709-4/ $26.95), which is sure to keep climbing to fantastic success. This time, a hoity-toity newcomer disrupts Miss Julia’s peaceful autumn by insulting Abbotsville, sending the town ladies into a frenzy, and then suddenly is discovered dead by Miss Julia herself!

Connie Clayborn has recently taken up residence with her wealthy husband in a gated community on the outskirts of Abbotsville, and invites Miss Julia and other A-list ladies over for coffee. Their eagerness to make a new friend is quickly snuffed out when the snobby woman begins spouting insensitive ideas on how to improve Abbotsville, including the town park with the statue of Lady Justice which Miss Julia and her friends personally helped create. Everyone leaves shaken, especially Emma Sue the pastor’s wife, who afterwards will barely leave the house. Pastor Ledbetter confides in Miss Julia and asks her to go talk to Connie to persuade her to change her ways — but when she arrives at the sprawling home, she finds Connie lifeless and bloody on the floor. Miss Julia needs to find out who the murderer is and fast, now that her fingerprints are now all over the crime scene. Luckily Miss Julia has two excellent lawyers at her disposal: her husband and Binkie.

MISS JULIA LAYS DOWN THE LAW arrives just in time for Mother’s Day and summertime beach reading, jam-packed with the mystery, laughs, and Southern charm readers have come to love.

Miss Julia books brought great fun into my mother’s and my life during the past three monht’s since we have both had seroius health issues. WE read all novels written within two months, laughing , crying and just plain having the best time together enjoying Miss Julia!! I was informed that there was a new book entitled “The Gift” that was to be released this Spring and I ordered it on Amazon to arrive in time for my Mother’s 97th Birthday on April 20th. My Mother has been an voracious reader, at least four books a week as long as I can remember. WE were so excited about the new arrival from Ann B Ross. I order The Gift and received Miss Julia Lays Down the Law. Is this one a new replacement book or is there one entitled The Gift that will still be released? I tried to order The Gift on AMazon and I was able to place an order for it a month ago. Now there is nothing that comes up under that title. Can you please explain what has happened to that book and is the one entitled Miss Julia Lays Down the Law a new one? It seems that we read one entitled as such. I need your help please. We were so anxious awaiting the arrival of The Gift and now I don’t know what to expect. Please advise ASAP so I can purchase the book if available and have it in time for her Birthday on april 20th. Thank you, Sherilyn Thompson Price

        Hi Sheri,
I wish I could help you with your question about “The Gift.” The information posted above comes from Penguin/Random House. I checked Ann B. Ross’s website and did not see mention of a book by that name. I suggest checking with your local bookstore (rather than Amazon) — booksellers are very knowledgeable about these sorts of issues and should be able to track down the missing book or let you know if there was a title change. Good luck with this mystery!
