PRESS RELEASE FROM THE STUDIOS AT FLAT ROCK:

Nature and art have been entwined this spring in a creative dance of beauty for the first annual Art in Bloom show opening this weekend at The Studios at Flat Rock. After winning an all-medium competition in April, members of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society, practitioners of the ancient Japanese Buddhist tradition of flower arranging, have interpreted the artwork of twenty of the region’s finest artists.

The flowers – side-by-side with the art that inspired their creation — are on display at the gallery beginning on Friday, May 27 for a ticketed preview gala from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Proceeds from the ticket sales benefit the Open Studio Tour of Henderson County in September, thanks to the generosity of Advocates for the Arts, the underwriter for the gala. A Best in Show Award and a People’s Choice Award will each be chosen, winners receiving $200 and $100, respectively, in addition to dining gift certificates from the newly opened, Brandy’s Restaurant and Dragonfly Cafe. Music for the evening will be supplied by local singer-songwriting favorite Ellen Trnka.

After the kick-off gala for Art in Bloom, the public is invited to view all the entries in the show on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Studios at Flat Rock, a premier destination for finely curated art and craft, is located in the Flat Rock Centre, behind the Village Hall on Greenville Highway.

To purchase tickets to the preview gala, please stop by the gallery, Flower Market, Henderson County Travel & Tourism, or Raymond’s Garden Center. Tickets are $25/person, $40/pair.
