Asheville Art Museum hosts pianoforte recital with Leslie Downs

The Asheville Art Museum is excited to present the next recital in its Pianoforte Series on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. As part of the Museum’s popular series, Pianist Leslie Downs will perform selections by Mozart, Mompou, Ginastera and Chopin. Dr. Downs is active as both a solo and a collaborative pianist. As a soloist, he has played recitals throughout the country and has appeared with several orchestras in Louisiana and Texas. Dr. Downs received his Doctor of Music Arts in Piano Performance degree from the University of Oklahoma. He also holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Yale University and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Centenary College of Louisiana. His principal teachers were Constance Carroll, Donald Currier, Katherine Teves, Elizabeth Child and Edward Gates. Dr. Downs recently served as the director and an instructor of piano for the North Haven Arts Academy in Norman, Oklahoma. He was also a staff accompanist for The Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Downs currently serves as an adjunct professor at both Mars Hill University and East Tennessee State University. He also maintains a private teaching studio in Asheville.

The Asheville Art Museum is the only nonprofit visual arts museum serving the 24 counties of Western North Carolina. Incorporated by artists in 1948, the Museum collects, preserves and interprets American art of the 20th and 21st centuries with a focus on work of significance to the Southeast.Centrally located in downtown Asheville on Pack Square, the Museum is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission to the Museum is $8.00 + tax for adults and $7.00 + tax for seniors and students (K-12 and college students with college ID). Children age five and younger are admitted free of charge. Members are admitted free of charge. The Holden Community Gallery, Museum Shop and Biltmore Gallery (all located on the first floor/street level of the Museum, are open at all times to the general public free of charge).
