Press release from The Asheville History Center:
The Asheville History Center at Smith-McDowell House has announced the winners of the Youth Photography Contest.
In the Fourth Grade Category, first place was won by Tommy Pinner and second place by Tristan Hunter. Best of Show in Fourth grade was tied by Abby Davis and Samantha Wallace.
In the Fifth Grade Category, first place was won by Jenna Dotson and second place by Grace Davis. Best of Show in Fifth grade was won by Amber Bumpus.
Fourth and Fifth graders were offered a nature photography workshop, led by amateur photographer, Tim Jones of Asheville. The students worked with Mr. Jones at the Botanical Gardens and then submitted three photographs each. Those photographs were juried to choose their entries for the judging. Judging was done by visitors to the Center during the William Bartram: Bartram’s Journey exhibition which ended at the end of October.
“These youngsters turned out to be fine artists”, said Lisa Whitfield, Education Coordinator at the Center. “Their use of light and color was amazing.”
