Asheville School of Film FREE Open House, Student Film Screenings and Upcoming Classes
ASHEVILLE, NC – June 14: Asheville School of Film is pleased to announce its next FREE Summer Open House and Filmmaker Mixer on Sunday June 5, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Co-owners Brad Hoover and Bill Pivetta, as well as manager Beth Rhyne will be present, along with several guest instructors and local filmmakers. Come enjoy the refreshments and learn about upcoming classes for both youth and adults! RSVP requested via email or facebook.
Additionally, ASoF will have FREE public Student Film Screenings on Saturday June 18 at 12 noon at Grail Moviehouse, located at 45 South French Broad Avenue. Films shown will include a Filmmaking 101 project and two short films from Filmmaking 201/301, which include many local actors. No fee or tickets are required, but patrons are encouraged to purchase concessions and stay for a movie.
A unique series of “Film History and Appreciation” seminars will continue on the first Friday of every month from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Renowned film historian Frank Thompson will lead an in depth discussion and expose on various film directors. The next seminar on June 3 will examine the works of Orson Welles. Cost of the seminar is a reduced $20 and attendees are encouraged to pre-register through the website. Look for future collaborations with Grail Moviehouse on screenings of the featured director.
In addition to the routine Film 101, 201 and 301 courses, there will be an intensive weekend workshop May 21-22, 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Documentary Filmmaking. This course is taught by experienced director and documentarian, Gary Donatelli, and will explore the art of non-fiction filmmaking through the secrets of capturing and telling a story that will captivate the audience. Cost for the weekend intensive will be $275.
ASoF is honored to also have local screenwriter Andrew Shearer leading an 8 week course on Screenwriting 101, an Introduction. Shearer is an accomplished award-winning screenwriter who will guide students through the proper process of screenwriting, applicable to both feature screenplays and short scripts. Class will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. for 8 classes starting June 7 (omitting July 4 week). Cost of the course is $525.

Students who have completed one course (film history excluded) with Asheville School of Film will be eligible for future class discounts of 20 percent.
