The sights, sounds and images of Mexico will be celebrated as Asheville Sister Cities opens the photography exhibit “Memories of Mexico” on October 16th from 5:30 – 8:00pm at 33 Page Avenue, downtown Asheville.
Many of the photographs to be displayed were taken in Asheville’s two Mexican sister cities – Valladolid and San Cristobal de las Casas. A rich cultural heritage will be shared and moments in time on the streets of these enchanting cities will be featured. A special musical performance by musician Michael Luchtan sets the mood. Photographs will be offered for sale as a fundraiser for the projects of these two sister cities programs.
A very special display of children’s art from San Cristobal de las Casas will also be shown. Pieces by Mayan street children from Casa de Flores, which provides food, shelter, and basic education to these wonderful young souls will help raise money for their needs. High School students in Zenquetic have also submitted works, from a Mayan village 45 minutes outside of San Cristobal.
