Asheville Surgery Center joins the Mission Health electronic health record

From a press release:

Asheville Surgery Center (ASC), an affiliate of Mission Health, joins Mission Health’s electronic medical record, effective Feb. 1, 2016. The electronic health records (EHRs) system is part of the larger Mission Health initiative “One Patient, One Chart” to improve care across the region.

A patient’s medical record is essential to providing the most desired quality and efficient care. When your care team has the full picture of your medical history at the click of a button, they have a better understanding of your wellness needs to best suit you and your lifestyle.

By working on a common computer platform, we are building a strong regional health system and ensuring a personalized and exceptional patient experience, no matter where you are in the region. The new electronic system allows patient information, such as medical history, treatments, test results, medications, surgeries and notes, to be available in real time via computer to the patient’s primary care provider as well as to other healthcare facilities.

EHRs are significant to Mission Health’s “One Patient, One Chart” strategy. Before electronic records, patient medical records were on paper, which didn’t allow them to be accessible at the time of care to all caregivers across Mission Health. With the “One Patient, One Chart” strategy, patients’ medical records follow them throughout Mission Health, making patient information securely accessible whether a patient is at Asheville Surgery Center or doctor’s office. EHRs should also reduce the number of duplicate tests that patients undergo, improving patient safety.

Asheville Surgery Center transitioned to the new system Feb. 1, 2016. Patients shouldn’t notice any difference in their care, other than processes may be a little slower as staff adjusts to the new system. Our focus will always be the patient first, and we ask patients and families to be patient in support of the new process so we can better serve you.
