Carolina Day School’s Key Learning Center has announced an upcoming community forum on leadership and dealing with dyslexia, featuring New York Times bestselling author and inspirational speaker Tommy Spaulding. The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza Expo Center on November 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m., according to a press release from Carolina Day School.
“Our intention in hosting this event is to bring a message of hope and encouragement to people identified as dyslexic and to emphasize the full picture of the dyslexic mind,” says Catherine Gay, Key School parent organizer and mother of a child with dyslexia. “We want people to know there is hope in overcoming academic challenges with a dyslexic mind, and we want to connect people at this event with the resources and organizations to help them do just that.”
The event will kick off with a keynote address from Spaulding, founder and president of Spaulding Companies consulting firm, former president and CEO of Up with People and founder of the Spaulding Leadership Institute. He is also the author of several books, including It’s Not Just Who You Know and The Heart-Led Leader: How Living and Leading from the Heart Will Change Your Organization and Your Life, and has dealt with dyslexia throughout his life.
“We are excited to welcome such an accomplished and successful author and speaker; he is the perfect person to bring this message,” says Gay. “We are overwhelmed by the positive response in the community to this event and by the organizations, educators, physicians, and caring people who have offered their time to aid us with resources.”
A panel discussion and Q&A on dyslexia, featuring educational experts, parents and children, will follow Spaulding’s speech. The event is free to attend, though registration is required. Those interested in attending can register online at carolinaday.org.
In addition, the Key Learning Center will be pre-selling Spaulding’s The Heart-Led Leader for $30, with proceeds going to support the Nov. 10 event. Spaulding will be available for book signings after the panel discussion.

Tommy Spaulding is founder and president of Spaulding Companies, a leadership development consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado. The former president and CEO of the global leadership organization, Up with People, Spaulding founded Leader’s Challenge, the largest high school leadership program in Colorado. He is president and founder of Spaulding Leadership Institute, which operates National Leadership Academy, Colorado Close Up, and Kid’s Challenge. His book, It’s Not Just Who You Know speaks to transforming your life and organization by turning colleagues and contacts into genuine, lasting relationships. Spaulding’s newly released book is called The Heart-Led Leader: How Living and Leading from the Heart Will Change Your Organization and Your Life. Key Learning Center at Carolina Day School is pre-selling the book for $30, with all proceeds supporting the event. Book signings are available after the program.
