Buncombe County Officials, Commissioners, and potential solid waste management partner, FCC Environmental Services are continuing conversations to manage the transition of the solid waste management contract. After a rigorous request for proposal process (RFP), County Officials recommended entering into negotiations with FCC as the solid waste management provider. At the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners Briefing on April 16, both parties publicly discussed details of the transition.
Notable enhancements as a part of the transition include technology and access improvements and dedicated community engagement. FCC also proposes new carts that will be owned by Buncombe County Government at the end of the contract tenure, no fee for replacement carts, and seven-day turnaround time for new cart delivery, as well as rigorous spill and leakage management and response.
New pricing structure details were provided at the briefing to include the following price points for service:
-Basic Service: Priced at $28.65 per month.
-Premium Service: Available at $59.00 per month. Premium Service includes additional driving beyond the pre-determined pick-up locations that may also require use of special equipment.
-Additional Services: “Bear Carts” available for purchase at $320.00 or a monthly lease of $10.16, and additional carts with service at a monthly lease of $12.00.The first two years of the contract the price will remain the same for subscribers, ensuring affordability and consistency.
