Door-to-door public health survey cancelled due to federal cuts

Press release from Buncombe County:

The Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER) door-to-door survey that Buncombe County Public Health had announced for this week has been canceled. Due to Federal cuts announced early this morning, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) staff providing support and expertise to Buncombe County to conduct the CASPER survey are no longer employed.

The goal of this survey was to better understand community needs, identify public health issues, and inform recovery and preparedness efforts following Tropical Storm Helene.

Buncombe County Public Health leadership acknowledges this is an unfortunate situation. County staff plans to explore alternative methods to gather valuable data on post-Helene community needs and will continue to support the complex and unique needs of our survivors both now and in the future.
