Press release from Friends of the Henderson County Public Library:
For many years, the Friends of the Henderson County Public Library have held bi-annual book sales to raise money for the many programs and materials the Friends provide to the library and the community.
Several thousand people a year visit the book sales – and they come from throughout western North Carolina and neighboring states.
Unlike many other book sales where the books are in poor condition and tossed into piles and boxes, the Friends make sure that every book is in good shape and shelved by author or subject.
In addition to books, the Friends also sell CDs, DVDs, records, and many other materials. And the prices are surprisingly low considering the quality of what is being sold.
The fall book sale will be on Sept. 7 (for members of the Friends); Sept. 8-9 (regular prices); Sept. 14-15 (half-price weekend); and Sept. 22 ($6 Fill-a-box day). The sale hours are 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. except for Sunday, Sept. 9, when the hours are 1:00 – 4:30 p.m.
The sale is at the Friends building at 1940 Spartanburg Highway in Hendersonville, next to Dollar General.
If you have been to the book sale before, don’t think you will just see the same materials. Every item offered in 2018 is newly donated. All items unsold in 2017 were shipped to the worthy non-profit, Better World Books.
Here are some of our most popular categories: paperback, children and young adult, fiction, mysteries, religion, coffee-table, cookbooks, diet & nutrition, large-print, collectible books, westerns, philosophy, biography, history, math & science, sci-fi and fantasy.
The Friends raise about $100,000 a year, a remarkable achievement for an all-volunteer organization, and they contribute to the community in so many ways. Stop by the main library in Hendersonville to drop off books you’re ready to donate, and then head over to Spartanburg Highway for one of the best book sales in this part of the country.
There are always enough cash registers to keep the lines short, and you’ll have the chance to meet volunteers who are avid readers and can help you find a new and exciting book you may not have known about.
