Grace Joyner + Gold Light + SemicircleGrace Joyner
From the background to the foreground, Grace Joyner [RIYL: Jenny Lewis, Feist, Stars] first made her way onto the Charleston, South Carolina music scene as a harmony singer in several bands, most notably Brave Baby and Elim Bolt. After years in a supporting role, Joyner felt compelled to explore her own vision through her own songwriting – the result being her debut EP Young Fools.
Gold Light
Gold Light is a 50’s inspired indie rock band from Asheville, North Carolina [RIYL: David Bowie, Roy Orbison, Jesus & Mary Chain]. Film school dropout Joe Chang reveals his producing/directing background through his cinematic story telling of love, loss and heartache in the debut self-titled LP.
Semicircle
Formed in Athens in 2010, Semicircle started as a solo project from Reptar drummer Andrew McFarland and over time has morphed into a songwriting tag team of sorts with Reptar bassist Ryan Engelberger making up the other half of the duo. In 2012, the group relocated to Atlanta to complete work on their debut full length, Blown Breeze, Grown Grass, and We are Part of the Earth, a ten-song collection of soft-focus indie rock and folk that’s spectral and fragile and wonderfully introspective, but is also capable of delivering more animated and volatile moments as evidenced by the lovely, elegiac “Movement is Calm”. The album’s lead single floats through your speakers like a caressing wind, a quietly pulsing piano buttressed against dreamy guitars and a driving backbeat.
