Land of the Sky United Church of Christ and Different Strokes! Performing Arts Collective have teamed up to for the production Listening for Grace. It will be staged at the Sanctuary of Kenilworth Church, Saturday, Sept. 26.

Press release from event organizers:

Land of the Sky United Church of Christ in partnership with Different Stroke Performing Arts Collective presents “Listening for Grace,” a Ted & Co. Theater Works Production. Sharing a mission to speak to the critical struggles of our lives, Land of the Sky UCC and Different Strokes PAC invite the wider community to listen deeply and participate in dialogue about how faith intersects with sexual identity.

Steph Hickling Beckman shares, “Performance that confronts social issues of the day in a provocative way is part of how Different Strokes! Gives back to our community. This play delivers an important message, in a powerful way. Bring your parents and grandparents, bring your friends and neighbors. Start the conversation or continue the conversation with those around you. Our work is not yet done.”

This production, by Ted Swartz, offers a funny, powerful, poignant glimpse into the fears and hopes of a faith community engaged in questions around same sex relationships. A father’s journey, a church’s struggle, a search for commonality.

The performance doesn’t claim to offer “the answer.” Instead, it embodies a diverse array of stories and takes seriously the idea that the church is a community on a journey. “Listening for Grace” accompanies Daryl as he wrestles with questions of life and faith and, most importantly, it encourages audiences to engage in conversation, share our stories, and think beyond what we first imagined … as we listen for grace.
